Start working on your putting now

Do you think you are a good putter? If you answered yes, you have a chance. “No!” you screamed? Your first path to improvement is believing you can make a putt rather than thinking of the miss. Tell me something – when you drive out to play that early season round at Creston, over the Moyie bluffs, do you think about driving into the lake on the right, or the cliffs on the left? Of course not; you focus on keeping the car on the road, usually really focus on staying in your lane. And yet you get over a three footer and assume you’re gonna pull it left again!

Grab your putter and two golf balls, find a strip of carpet that is close to green height (we don’t need 12 on the stimp for this but if you don’t have a putting carpet at home they are available in our store). Put the balls about 3 feet apart, line up your putter behind one and stroke away as usual at the second ball. Did you miss it? Now, on your second attempt, really focus on ball #1 striking the center of ball #2; visualize the impact in your mind’s eye. Chances are on this attempt the golf balls collide. Once you get good at this, throw a dime on the carpet and putt away at that as your target. When you get out to the golf course, the 4 ½” hole will seem huge!
