What to think about those first days at the range …
By Golf Etc on March 30, 2009
Is this the day for the first visit to the driving range? Please stop by Golf Etc first and pick up your golf specific stretching sheets first… and then do them prior to hitting any balls! Bob Anderson recommends this 6 minute routine before and after you golf or practice, and it really does help prevent golf injuries.
Now you are ready for the range… start with your wedges, chip strokes first. Work your way up to a full swing, from ¼ to ½ to ¾ and now a full turn with your shoulders. Repeat this process through the short irons, focusing on solid contact first not distance or direction. You may now be at the end of your large bucket now and you haven’t even hit your favourite 7 iron. This is okay! Pick up your golf bag and head to the putting or chipping green, or at least take a 15 minute break after your finish those stretches.
Second bucket might get you into your mid-irons or even your hybrids; third bucket likely the same. You get it now? You are not hitting your woods and therefore driver until your 4th or 5th bucket of balls! Once there, your routine is similar but more condensed… stretches, chips, pitches, short irons, mid-irons, hybrids, fairways, driver. Cool down with a half dozen well placed pitch shots and then stretch again. By now, the putting green is open for the season and you start on your positive putting routine!
…next week… what is your SMASH FACTOR?
